Abbreviations
K: knit.P: purl.
4/4RC: slip next 4 sts onto cable needle, hold at back of work, K4, K4 from cable needle.
4/4LC: slip next 4 sts onto cable needle, hold at front of work, K4, K4 from cable needle.
P2tog: purl 2 together.
K2tog: Knit 2 together.
ApproximateFinished Size:
Cap – 21 inches in circumference.
Scarf – 9 inches wide X 48 inches long.
Please read over all instructions before beginning to knit.
Instructions
Cast on 104 sts, place marker for end of rnd, join being careful not to twist stitches.
Work in K3, P1 ribbing for 2 inches.
Rnd 1: *P2, K1, P2, K8* around
Rnds 2 & 3: Repeat rnd 1
Rnd 4: *P2, K1, P2, 4/4RC; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Repeat 4-rnd pattern until piece from beginning of pattern measures 8 inches.
Next Rnd: (Decrease) *P2tog, K1, P2tog, K3, K2tog, K3; repeat from * to end of rnd. 80 sts on needle.
Work 2 rnds even.
Next rnd: K2tog across all sts. 40 sts on needle.
Work 1 rnd even.
Using a yarn needle, draw yarn through remaining sts. Pull tightly and fasten off.
A pompom may be added if desired.

Cast on 44 sts.
Row 1: K3, P2, K8, [P2, K1, P2, K8] 2 times, P2, K3.
Rows 2 & 4: K5, P8, [K2, P1, K2, P8] 2 times, K5.
Row 3: K3, P2, 4/4RC, P2, K1, P2, 4/4LC, P2, K1, P2, 4/4RC, P2, K3.
Repeat 4- row pattern until piece measures approximately 48 inches or desired length.
Bind off all stitches. Block scarf misting lightly, remove when totally dry.
