Designed for both Mother & Daughter these quick & easy hats are knit entirely in the round. Using knit stitches the shaping is achieved by changing needle sizes. Designed using our colorful, boucle yarn, Clyde, they can also be knit in our Bonnie yarn, or both. They can easily be adjusted to fit any size head. If a 20 inch hat is required, simply multiply the stitch gauge per inch by the number of inches required. ie. 2.5 X 20 = 50; cast-on 50 sts.

Yarn Requirements

Clyde Chunky Weight 50 gram ball (82 yards)

Needles and Materials

6.0 mm circular needle (40 cm)
4.5 mm circular needle (40 cm)
5.0 mm circular needle (40 cm)
5.0 mm double-pointed needles (set of 4)

Gauge: 10 sts & 18 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch on 6.0 mm needle.

IMPORTANT: Hand wash and lay flat to dry sample before measuring gauge.

Abbreviations

SSK: (slip 1 knitwise) twice; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together.

Finished Sizes (in inches)

Child’s hat: 17 1/2 inch circumference
Adult's hat: 21 1/2 inch circumference

Instructions

The pattern is written for child’s hat (adult’s hat).

Brim

With 6.0 mm circular needle, cast on 44 (54) sts. Place marker, join being careful not to twist sts. Work 4 (6) inches in stockinette st.
Change to 4.5 mm needle; work 1 inch in stockinette st.

Crown

Change to 5.0 mm circular needle. Increase 1 st in each st around. 88 (108) sts on needle.
Work 4 (6) inches in stockinette st.

Shape top of hat

Note: Change to double-pointed needles when you can no longer work on a circular needle.
Rnd 1: *SSK; repeat from * to end of rnd. 44 (54) sts on needle.
Rnd 2: *SSK; repeat from * to end of rnd. 22 (27) sts on needle.
Rnd 3: *K1, SSK; repeat from * to end of rnd, ending with K1 for child’s hat. 15 (18) sts on needle.
Break yarn, leaving a tail. Draw tail through remaining sts. Pull tightly and fasten off.
