Eastport Alpaca DK Weight 75 grams (150 yards)

Needles and Materials

Size 5 mm (US 8) needles
Stitch markers

Gauge: 20 sts & 24 rows = 4 inches in pattern.

Abbreviations

K: knit.
P: purl.
SL: slip.
SKPO: slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped st over.
YO: yarn over.

Please read over all instructions before beginning to knit.

Notes

The shawl is knit in patterns A, B, C, D & E, with each pattern consisting of 20 rows.
The pattern sequence is given in the instructions.
The placement of the stitch markers in row 1 of Pattern A gives a visual guide for the pattern stitch throughout the garment. Slip the stitch markers on following rows.
With yarn in front, slip the first stitch of every row purlwise.

Instructions

Cast on 62 stitches
Rows 1- 3: SL1, knit to end of row.
Begin Pattern A.

Pattern A

Row 1: SL1, K3, place marker, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 5 more times (18 sts), place marker, K18, place marker, K18, place marker, K4.
Row 2: SL1, K3, P36, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 5 more times (18 sts), K4.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for a total of 20 rows. Begin Pattern B.

Pattern B

Row 1: SL1, K3, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 11 more times (36 sts), K18, K4.
Row 2: SL1, K3, P18, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 11 more times (36 sts), K4.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for a total of 20 rows. Begin Pattern C.

Pattern C

Row 1: SL1, K3, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 17 more times (54 sts), K4.
Row 2: SL1, K3, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 17 more times (54 sts), K4.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for a total of 20 rows.
Repeat Pattern B.
Repeat Pattern A.
Begin Pattern D.

Row 1: SL1, K3, K36, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 5 more times (18 sts), K4.
Row 2: SL1, K3, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 5 more times (18 sts), P36, K4.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for a total of 20 rows. Begin Pattern E.

Pattern E

Row 1: SL1, K3, K18, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 11 more times (36 sts), K4.
Row 2: SL1, K3, *SKPO, YO, K1; repeat from * 11 more times (36 sts), P18, K4.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for a total of 20 rows.
Continue in the following sequence: Pattern C, E, D, A, B, C, B, A, D, E, C, E, D, A, B, C, B, A.
Next 3 rows: SL1, knit to end of row.
Bind off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends, hand wash in mild soap, rinse, roll in towel to remove excess moisture, re-shape, dry flat.
