Needles and Materials

4.0 mm (US 6)

Gauge: 20 sts & 30 rows = 4 inches in Garter Ridge Pattern.

To save time, take time to check gauge.

Abbreviations

K: knit.
P: purl.
P2SSO: pass 2 slipped sts over.
SSK: (slip 1 knitwise) twice; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together.
P2tog: purl 2 together.
SSP: slip 2 sts knitwise, place back on left needle, insert right needle from left to right into back of sts and purl 2 together.
K2tog: Knit 2 together.

Notes:
Central Double Decrease = Slip 2 sts at once knitwise; K1; P2SSO.

For fully-fashioned decreases: On RS rows, K2, SSK, work across in pattern as established until 4 sts remain, ending row with K2tog, K2; on WS rows, P2, P2tog, work across in pattern as established until 4 sts remain in row, ending row with SSP, P2.

Border Pattern (multiple of 8 + 1 sts)
Row 1 (RS): *K1, yarn over, K2, Central Double Decrease, K2, yarn over.  Repeat from * across, ending row with K1.
Row 2: Knit across.
Rows 3 and 4: As Rows 1 and 2.
Row 5: A Row 1.
Row 6: P2, *K5, P3.  Repeat from * across, ending row with K5, P2.
Row 7: *K2, yarn over, K1, Central Double Decrease, K1, yarn over, K1.  Repeat from * across, ending row with K1.
Row 8: P3, *K3, P5.  Repeat from * across, ending row with K3, P3.
Row 9: *K3, yarn over, Central Double Decrease, yarn over, K2.  Repeat from * across, ending row with K1.
Rows 10-12: Purl across.


Garter Ridge Pattern (any number of sts)
Row 1 (RS): Knit across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Rows 3-6: As Rows 1 and 2.
Rows 7 and 8: Knit across.
Repeat Rows 1-8 for pattern.

Garter St Pattern (any number of sts)
Pattern Row: Knit across.
Repeat Pattern Row for pattern.


Back
Cast-on 81 (89, 97, 105, 113, 121) sts. 

Work Rows 1-12 of Border Pattern.

Begin Garter Ridge Pattern, and work even until piece measures approximately 15" from beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Armholes
Continuing in  pattern as established, bind off 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts at beginning of next two rows, then bind off 2 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5) sts at beginning of next two rows, then work fully-fashioned decreases (see Notes) each side every row 4 (4, 10, 10, 14, 15) times, then every other row 1 (2, 0, 1, 0, 0) times—61 (63, 63, 65, 67, 69) sts remain.

Continue even until piece measures approximately 21 ½ (22, 22 ½, 23, 23 ¼, 23 ¼)" from beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Neck
Next Row (RS): Work across first 14 (15, 15, 16, 17, 18) sts, join second ball of yarn and bind off middle 33 sts, work to end of row.

Working both sides at once with separate balls of yarn, decrease 1 st at each neck edge once—13 (14, 14, 15, 16, 17) sts remain each side.

Continue even until piece measures approximately 22 (22 ½, 23, 23 ½, 23 ¾, 23 ¾) from beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Shoulders

Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) sts at beginning of next six rows, then bind off 4 (5, 5, 3, 4, 5) sts at beginning of next two rows.

Front
Work the same as back until piece measures approximately 17 ½ (18, 18 ½, 19, 19 ¼, 19 ¼)" from beginning, ending after WS row.

Shape Neck
Work across first 23 (24, 24, 25, 26, 27) sts, join second ball of yarn and bind off middle 15 sts, continue across to end row.

Working both sides at once with separate balls of yarn, bind off 4 sts at each neck edge once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge twice, then decrease 1 st at each neck edge every other row twice—13 (14, 14, 15, 16, 17) sts remain each side.

Continue even until piece measures same as back to shoulders.

Shape Shoulders

Same as for back.

Finishing
Sew right shoulder seam.

Neckband
With RS facing, pick up and knit 142 sts along neckline.
Work Garter St Pattern until band measures approximately ½" from beginning.
Next Row: Continuing in pattern, decrease 21 sts evenly across—121 sts remain.
Continue even in pattern until band measures approximately ¾" from beginning.

Bind off.
Sew left shoulder seam, including side of neckband.
Armbands
With RS facing, pick up and knit 85 sts along armhole.
Work in Garter St Pattern for ¾".

Bind off.
Sew side seams.
